ScribbleLive alternative: what comes after the shutdown.

The ScribbleLive live product shut down in December 2023, so every former customer needs a ScribbleLive alternative. Old embed codes point to a domain that no longer exists, and the ticker spots in those articles now show nothing.

The product is gone. Rock Content ended its Live product in December 2023.

Old embeds are empty. embed.scribblelive.com no longer resolves, so nothing loads where the ticker used to be.

The next event needs a new tool. Livetickr is one script tag in any CMS, with no cookies in the embed.

The difference

What happened to ScribbleLive

ScribbleLive was one of the early hosted live blogs. Its end was announced well in advance, and its traces are still on a lot of pages.

Acquired in 2019

Rock Content, a Brazilian marketing company, acquired Toronto-based ScribbleLive in December 2019.

Shut down in 2023

In January 2023, Rock Content announced that its Live product would be available until December 2023, and recommended a migration partner.

Embeds that load nothing

The embed host embed.scribblelive.com no longer resolves. An article that still carries the old embed code shows an empty gap, or nothing at all.

Credit where due

What larger tools offer

If you are replacing a whole ScribbleLive setup, larger live blog tools cover things Livetickr does not have yet.

  • An importer for ScribbleLive archives (Tickaroo documents one)
  • Reader comments inside the feed
  • Integrations with newsroom systems such as Arc XP or Livingdocs
  • Live sports data

In detail

Where the difference matters

A table flattens things. Here is what each row means for a newsroom on the night it counts.

Clean up the old articles

An embed code that points to a dead domain does no harm to your page, but it leaves a gap where readers expect coverage. Search your CMS for scribblelive.com to find the articles that still carry one.

The old updates themselves are not coming back through the embed. If an archived live blog matters, the text has to come from wherever your team kept a copy.

Choosing what comes next

Most former ScribbleLive customers moved in 2023. If you are only now picking a replacement, you have several real options, and they suit different sizes of newsroom.

Large newsrooms with a big archive should look at Tickaroo, whose documentation includes a ScribbleLive importer, or at the migration partner Rock Content recommended when it announced the shutdown. Livetickr has no importer. It is the lean option for the next live event: one script tag, a focused editor and no cookies in the embed.

Honest fit

Is Livetickr the right ScribbleLive alternative for you?

The right replacement depends on what you are replacing: an archive, or the next live night.

Look at an enterprise tool if

  • you need to bring a large ScribbleLive archive with you
  • you need sports data, SSO or newsroom system integrations
  • you want a vendor with a long list of large customers

Choose Livetickr if

  • you need a ticker for the next event, not a migration project
  • the feed should render in your page, not in a frame
  • you want no cookies in the embed and hosting in Germany
  • you want early access and the launch price

Questions

ScribbleLive alternative: common questions

What publishers ask before they move their live coverage.

What is the best ScribbleLive alternative?

For a large newsroom with an archive to move, Tickaroo, whose documentation includes a ScribbleLive importer. For the next live event on a smaller site, Livetickr: one script tag and no cookies in the embed. 24liveblog offers a free plan with sponsored ads.

Is ScribbleLive still available?

No. Rock Content, which acquired ScribbleLive in 2019, ended its Live product in December 2023.

Why do my old ScribbleLive embeds show nothing?

The embed host, embed.scribblelive.com, no longer resolves. The code in your articles points to a domain that does not exist any more.

Can Livetickr import my ScribbleLive archive?

No. Livetickr has no importer. Tickaroo documents a ScribbleLive importer, which may suit a newsroom with a large archive.

Does Livetickr work in the same places ScribbleLive did?

Yes. The Livetickr embed is one script tag, so it works in any CMS or page that accepts HTML. For WordPress there is also a plugin that makes it a block.

Why Livetickr

The case for Livetickr

If you are still comparing, these are the four things Livetickr is built around. Each one shows up on the night your live coverage brings in the most readers.

Part of your article

The feed renders into your page, not into a frame. It takes the width of your column and follows your layout, so readers stay in your article.

Seen by every reader

No cookies and no stored IP addresses, so the ticker needs no consent banner of its own. Readers see your coverage without clicking accept first.

No ads, your brand

There are no ads in the feed. Your coverage carries your brand color and design, and author cards credit the editor who wrote each update.

Hosted in Germany

Operated by fdmedia GmbH in Walldorf, hosted in Frankfurt. When your data protection officer asks where reader data goes, the answer is one sentence.

Benefits

What you get

The essentials for live coverage, plus the extras that make it nicer to work with.

Embed anywhere in one line of code

WordPress, Next.js, a static page, a landing page for a single event. If it renders HTML, your ticker works there, with the same one-line tag. Paste it yourself in a minute, no developer or rebuild needed.

<script defer
  src="https://cdn.livetickr.io/embed.js"
  id="livetickr-feed"
  data-ticker-id="tkr_9f3ab2"></script>

Always live, no reloads

Publish an update and it shows up in every embedded ticker within seconds. Readers keep reading.

Privacy-first, no cookies

The embed sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses, so live coverage doesn’t drag a consent banner along.

Rich block editor

Text, quotes, images, social and video embeds: structured, not one long text field.

On-brand designs

Choose a timeline, markers or an editorial list, then set it all in your own brand color.

Author cards

Avatar, bio and social links on every post, so the byline credit lands where it belongs.

Schedule ahead

Prepare updates in advance and they publish themselves at the exact minute you set.

How it works

Write, paste, done

Three steps from a blank editor to a live blog on your own page.

STEP 1

Write the update

A clean block editor for text, quotes, images and embeds. Publish now, or schedule it to go live the moment it starts.

STEP 2

Drop in one tag

One <script> tag on any page, any CMS. No plugin, no theme surgery, no developer needed. Paste it once, the embed does the rest.

STEP 3

It updates itself

New posts appear in the embedded ticker on their own, within seconds. Readers stay on the page: no reload, no missed moment.
